Let's Get Inspired!

As I've sat in prayer before our heavenly Father, I've often been thrilled with His input.  It's so exciting to find His inspirations added to what I was thinking or writing.  This book is an example of such input, and it's also an example of the variety of ways God shows up.
--Mary Gordon
Back in 2004 my husband and I spent 9 weeks at a school in Canada about an hour north of Toronto.  The sessions began mid-January and ended mid-March, so needless to say it was not warm.  In fact, we were informed that the week before we arrived the temperature had reached 35 degrees Fahrenheit BELOW ZERO.  Brrrr.  Can you imagine me waking up one morning to a scene outside our window of a skinny squirrel in a completely barren tree somehow finding food and feasting?  I couldn't have imagined it either, but there it was.  And I wrote a poem about that little guy called "The Squirrel."   --Mary Gordon
The Squirrel

He’s way up high in tree
My friend, the squirrel, you see.
I lie here fascinated
How high he’s navigated.
I should get up; it’s late.
But let me watch this guy’s fate.
On branches, oh so slim
No weight can be on him.
He reaches out with greed
And eagerly does feed.
I can’t get out of bed
Until that squirrel is fed.

I hope you enjoy my book as much as I did putting it together!

Not A Poet
I have never thought of myself as a poet nor do I to this day. I have never sat down to write a poem. However, I have very often sat down to spend time with my God! And when I do, I usually write. Sometimes it's notes I jot down from what I'm reading or seeing in the scriptures. Sometimes I simply write my prayers. Other times I write the praise I want to offer to Him.

Apparently He enjoys it because He always jumps in and starts inspiring what I write. It's our time together, and it is sweet. He knows I love rhythm and rhyme, so every now and then He downloads a poem--just to delight my heart. I've often shared them with others, and that's how this book came about. It's those friends that have insisted I share them in a book.

Here's an excerpt from one of Mary's poems entitled, "Only Through God":

...Lean your ears to the sounds of heaven
And open your eyes to see the leaven
Of the wrong direction; you've a misguided heart--
Seeking love that can only depart.
For only from God is true love found.
In Him alone will our nation abound.
